Day 20 – 6:30 a.m., you never know?

Today, getting another task checked off the list.  Last weekend, it was Covid Vaccine #2.  Looking back, I feel fortunate to have gotten both vaccinations as it was quite the process securing appointment times.  I went to multiple vax sites many times, only to be alerted, ‘no appointments available’.  I finally figured it out, 6:30 a.m. was the magic ticket.  6:30 in the morning at Walgreens.com. Still, I had to act quickly, because as seconds ticked away, so did many of the appointment times.  It worked though, and this task is done.

Today, task #2, renewing my driver’s license.  It wouldn’t be a big deal, but this time around I need the vision screening, so I can’t just check off a box and handle it electronically.  Once again, scoring an appointment time has been quite the ordeal, thank you wonderful state of Illinois!  Every time I would go to the DMV site, there would be one time available, on one calendar day only, and it would never be at a location anywhere near me.  The system does not make sense!

The other morning, I treated it like Walgreens, as if I were racing many others to get the golden vaccine appointment.  I logged onto the IL DMV at the magical time of 6:30 a.m. and tadaaa, a Golden Saturday 8:40 a.m. appointment appeared, and at the location nearest me!  Scored big!

So this morning, in a little while, off I go to renew my driver’s license. Such an exciting Saturday!  But, with an 8:40 appt, there’s still plenty of time to make this Saturday exciting.  I’ll have to remember, should I ever want to buy a lotto, I should make that purchase around that magical time of 6:30 a.m., you never know?

  1. You wrote this story of frustration with a great positive tone. It feels so good to conquer the systems these days. Why, though, does every task have to be so hard? It must be impossible for anyone with issues with technology like those in poverty or the elderly.

  2. I love how you stayed positive! I would have definitely been frustrated and voicing it loudly with some inappropriate words! I’m glad you got your important appointments done and still all day to enjoy the sunshine today.
